Online Auctions You can be conned on an online Auction or even attending a public one! They are all the same and it is not the system or website that is conning you, it is the people that take part. They con you by “bumping the price up” to get as much for the auction lot as they can. You think you are bidding against someone else when in reality you are not? Let me tell you that this happens in 6 out of 10 items that go up for sale. Can we prove it? NO! My advice to you is set yourself a price that you want to pay and stop when the item goes over this price. Before you bid on anything, please remember this: in the case of items online, you are taking the word of the owner on what condition the item is in and even if it works at all. This is where the element of risk comes into it! Always try your best to go and see the item working and remember in nearly every case the item has no shop guarantee. Let me give you a very good example. A very good friend of mine bought his son a gaming computer on Gumtree. This thing only cost him £350 and I can tell you he was very happy with it and so was his son. But then 3 months later it completely stopped working and there was nothing he could do about it as it was second-hand. This is the risk he took and he paid the price for it. I told him you cannot blame Gumtree, they are very clear about buying something through their site. You must check out exactly what the item is and make sure the buyer is not trying to con you. I would say that 70% of the time we get a great deal when buying online as there are loads of people out there that are true to their word and would not knowingly Con you. The risk is there and if you want to try your luck and secure a bargain hoping you are one of the lucky ones, well, I really hope you are. I feel really sorry for parents that work hard with low incomes and try to give their children all they can and the only way to do this is to try and buy what the child wants at a price they can afford. Only to pay for it later when the item stops working There is nothing wrong with buying online! Just be on your Guard and do all the checks you can and remember, if something is so cheap there must be a catch. It is too good to be true, it may turn out to be a con.
