Telephone Cons & Scams

Whatever happened to people’s privacy?

We have received several email complaints from people who reported a telephone “con” in which the caller reports to be an employee of a major internet company, which develops, manufactures, and supports software along with other products and services.
People reported that a caller with an Indian or Chinese accent claimed their computers were infected with viruses. The caller warns his intended victim that they are sending the viruses to others via the Internet, and gave instructions to go to websites such as hxxp://www.irssupport.net, Hxxp://www.go4support.org, and a lot more.

When the victims navigate to one of the websites, they are then instructed to click on live support or live connect for assistance in removing the viruses. Some victims were instructed to download a software program that would help them remove the virus they supposedly had.

After the victim clicked on the link or downloaded the program, the conman now took control of the victim's computer. Victims watched their screen as the caller explored personal files, pointing out files that were infected. Some victims reportedly believed that the caller copied their files and obtained their personal information. In some cases, they obtain log-in passwords that you have told your computer to remember.

The caller then goes on to tried to sell the victims' software. That they can pay for with their credit card.

Many people reported loud noises in the background during the call, indicating a possible room-type operation.
It is very clear that this con is getting very big and is a virus in itself that is costing millions of Pounds / Dollars. Is there any way to stop it? NO!
There only thing you can do to protect you and your family is to spread the word that this is going on and to keep an eye out for this type of phone call. I can tell you 1 in 10 of you will be getting one. .

At this moment it look like it is the Chinese that are at the
top of the list for this con or scam.
I hope this helps you to be safe.
