The Bait: You have won a fabulous prize in a foreign lottery; or so the e-mail says. To claim your prize, it is necessary to pay the upfront administration fees or taxes and so you are asked to wire money to the lottery promoters.

The Catch: Firstly, unless you have bought a ticket in a foreign lottery there is no chance of you winning. Never send cash or bank transfers for this kind of offer because you will never get it back or have any recourse to claim on your bank. The fraudsters may also be able to gain access to your accounts or credit cards from the information that you provide while high on the excitement of your newly found wealth.
